Well, What can I say...After we both gacked the set up I knew I was in for a day! So on with the show:
This was a 10 turn monster with My IJA attempting to exit 8 VP off of the west edge of bd. 35 while not the letting US to exit 8 VP off of the east edge. of bd. 36 with plenty of GI's with a mixed bag of early PA & USMC holding on to a ridge with concrete trenches. Although I start with 14 1st. line & 13 2nd line squads it was uphill all the way.
I started out by leaving a few of my 2nd line squads to cover the east edge w/3 3-4-7's and my 8+1 Ldr. HIP very close the the US exit area. while my main force charged headlong into the fortified positions Jay had set up on the two hills just east of my exit area. Things were not lookin' so good until I eliminated the Platoon that was holding a small outcropping hill on Bd. 35 of course my first two attacks were duds..but just effective enough to allow Jays' marine 458 to go Fanaitic..great! So instead of clearing the ridge in 2-3 turns I have to use about 3/4 of my exiting 1st. forces just to clear a avenue to push up between the two hills. Turn 5. Hill outcropping is cleared my tanks have arrived. Over on my right flank Jay has been pouring tremendus fire down on my advancing 1st. liners..No Problem I got OBA...first draw..Red O.K. No problem I'm slighlty ahead of schedule I can wait until next turn....Second draw...You guessed it RED! No 70 mil. help for my right flank.
Meanwhile back at the ranch...Jay's Mr. 10-2 has enterd the fray and is putting a lot of pressure on the US exit area... But I have reinforced the platoon or so with one of my tanks...and are holding the line....barely. But Jay has force me to take a platoon and my 9-0 ldr. to send the east edge action in order to hold the line (currently crumbling fast) Which as it turns out caused my final demise! Mr. 10-2 has put so much pressure on here that I have to use my 200 OBA that I was originally going to use to help clear the MG nests. just to keep him from scoring enough VP to win. Finally OBA lands w/harrasing fire just in time to slow their advance. But all for naught as by this time I running thin in my push toward my exit area, although I still have a Tank in the area It was not enough to make a breakthrough in the last line of defense. By turn 9 the writing was on the wall and the Hat remains on Jay currently swelling head!
Overall it was a great scenario, although I could'nt make it happen for the IJA I think it is winable. Oh yeah one more thing.......Jay is the King of Skulk. I don't think I've seen anyone skulk more effectivly than Jay..It seemed like as soon as I got into position to cunduct a Bonsi charge there was nobody in sight to go after! Way to go Jay!
Somebody has to stop Jay's Reign of Terror
Later! M. Bill
